Trains & Tracks

I love trains and tracks.  There’s something about their linear movement along leading lines that I find fascinating.  To add, my grandfather worked on the railroad for 40 years.  So the interest and attraction is there because it’s been passed along in the family.  Over the years, I’ve taken countless images of trains and tracks in various settings across the seasons.  Here are three images taken at multiple locations across the greater St Louis area.

Union Station

Union Station is a national historic landmark and former train station in St Louis (Missouri).  It opened in 1894, closed in 1978, then reopened 1985 as a mixed-use complex with shops, restaurants, event spaces, and a hotel.  Today it includes the Wheel, St Louis Aquarium, and a small lake with plenty of koi.  Here are a series of images that depict its iconic stature in the city of St Louis.

Belleville, Illinois

Over the course of a couple of weekends, I headed out the door early to stroll through my new hometown, Belleville (Illinois).  Arguably, Belleville is a suburb of St Louis just east of the Mississippi River.  It's a fantastic and vibrant city and home to nearly 50,000 people.  Whenever I do a photowalk, I'm amazed at what I find on the other end of the lens.  I simply walkabout looking for interesting buildings, colors, shapes, lighting, etc.  Here are a couple of early morning images from my recent strolls through the city.
